What is AirDrop?

AirDrop is a service that enables user to transfer the content such as photos, videos, locations and other data quickly with the help of Wi-Fi connection or Blue-tooth. It is a high speed peer-to-peer protocol that enables wireless sharing of data. It encrypts the data content in wireless mode in order to provide high security. It is used in both OS X and iOS devices but AirDrop protocol is different for both the system. However, OS X Yosemite and its later versions are compatible with iOS AirDrop.   • Click on Apple Menu on your Mac system
  • Select System Preferences
  • Go to the Security & Privacy in System Preference window
  • Now Select Firewall and Click on Firewall options
  • Uncheck the box next to the Block all incoming communications option

Solution -2

Air Drop provides an option No one, Everyone, Contacts Only. By selecting No one option, no one can share the data with user. By enabling the Everyone option, anyone can share the files with the user. Another option is Contacts only, it allows only contacts to share their data with the user.

  • Find the Air Drop in system
  • Click on Air Drop icon.
  • Now click on Allow me to be discovered by
  • Select according to the need from No one, Everyone, Contacts only

Solution -3

User must check the connectivity of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If Wi-Fi is not available then user must turn on the Blue tooth for sharing the data.


If user is accessing Air Drop with Bluetooth, user needs to check distance between the devices. The distance between the devices must be 9 meters.

Devices should not be in Airplane Mode. User must deselect this option in order to connect with other device.

Hotspot should not be opened while using Air Drop service. If Hotspot is also opened with AirDrop it will cause clash in the system.

Air Drop does not support multiple types of file transfer at same time. User can send only same kind of file in a single session, if a user share different type of data like images, PDF files, videos in same time the system will show the error message on the screen.
